Stop To Think "Did you ever stop to think, and forget to start again?" A. A. Milne. The problem as I see it, is that many people do not even get to the stop and think part and are always moving. They never stop to think, examine, evaluate and analyse what they have done, what they are doing and where they are heading, or if where they are heading is where they should be going. This can be seen in people making rash decisions, engaging in stupid and reckless activities, becoming invested in an idea to a point that when a logical reason is put forward against the idea one becomes offended and gets defensive. It can be shown by those stuck in the mindset of being another cog in the machine, working to make someone else richer and getting protective of the 9-5 grind. Bertrand Russell said "Many people would sooner die than think. In fact they do.". This is easily proven by the near everyday news reports of people doing something stupid which gets them seriously injured or killed, causing stupid deaths to others, or unwittingly provoking others into injuring or killing them. So please people, learn to think. Parents, teach your children how to think. If you don't know how, learn so you can pass that knowledge on to your children. Nachman of Bratslav said that "Thinking is more precious than all five senses." I know that if I could not think, especially for myself, I would think that my five senses were completely useless, as I would have lost the means to process what they pick up. Remember, regularly stop to think and remember to start again once you are certain of your thought. Test everything and hold on to what presents itself as the simplest and most logical. You owe it to yourself. |
