GILLARD: Filter our internet and we will filter you.
Purported Communications Minister, Stephen CONROY, just wont let up how ignorant he is of his portfolio’s contents. He just can’t stop showing us how computer, networking and internet illiterate he is and making Australia the laughing stock of the tech world. Really, it is now.
Of course he would prefer that noone know that he is incompetent at his job, and would rather lash out at those who criticise him rather than trying to work out why they are criticing him and his plans. Everyone from Save the Children, to Google to the United States Government have been given the finger by him and people wonder why the tech industry is gobsmacked at him.
Or people may be too fascinated by his good intentions. Yes, Child Abuse material and Child Pornography are nasty and should all be eradicated, but the filter wont do that. The filter is like looking out your window and seeing a child being abused, then Stephen CONROY pulls your shades down so you can’t see it. Does pulling the shades down stop what was happening? No, it merely hides it from view. Well, at least it all seems like it’s fixed, I mean, as long as you can’t see it anymore, it doesn’t exist right? Don’t be so naive.
The filter will do a whole tremendous lot of NOTHING to protect children. Want to stop child abuse and stop child pornography? Report it to the police and gets the Feds onto it. Don’t cover it up, remove it completely. Remember, you can’t polish a turd.
As tradition has it, the Health Minister is or was a practicing doctor. The Attorney General is or was a practicing lawyer or solicitor. The internet as a technological revolution and medium is so, so very important, I believe we need a Communications Minister who has extensive experience in the related industries and is well acquainted with all current technological means to communicate, whether letter, fax, email or mobile. If not, it’s like giving control of a nuclear missile facility to a little kid fascinated with push buttons; most of those button pushes are not going to end well.
So please Australia, kick Stephen CONROY out of office and demand someone who actually knows something about technology, preferably a little more than starting up a computer and how to make a phone locked by their kid work again.
And to purported Prime Minister Julia GILLARD. Filter the internet and we will filter you (by not voting you into a return to office after the election).
